The Serengeti National Park is the biggest national park in northern Tanzania that extends over 14,763 km2 or 5700 sq miles. It is wholly sited in the eastern Mara Region and northeast part of Simiyu Region. It is spread over 15,000,000 (37,000,000 acres) hectares reaching from savannah to hilly woodlands to open grasslands. It partially lies in the north by the Kenya border and continues to the Masai Mara National Reserve.

The Serengeti National Park is also famous for the highest annual animal movements globally, with about 1.5 million common wildebeest and 250,000 zebra and the massive lion population in Africa. The area is at risk of overpopulation and deforestation. The Serengeti National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site as a global tourist attraction.

Activities in Tanzania

Hot-air balloon

Serengeti Hot Balloon Safaris are the leading activities and a separate exposure to the boundless plains. Hovering in the air as you spot the wildlife from the sky with other birds is fantastic. The balloon safari starts at 5 am.

Visit the Maasai

The Maasai are semi-nomadic attendants living in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. Known by another name as the East African Tribal Group. They have enormous sizes and put on colorful clothing. They have been living near the Serengeti plains for about 300 years. They still love old traditions and ethical values. A visit to their village is a significant chance to learn about their lifestyles and historical beliefs. They are sociable and will show how to hunt, cook traditional foods, milk pet animals, and so many more. You can also visit schools and take part in historical dance performances.

Bologonja Spring

A fresh stream of water drips from the close Kuka hillside, at a minimal distance from the Serengeti border. It offers picturesque views of the Serengeti. The springs give water, allowing plants to flourish during the entire year. It allures many species, birds, elephants, steenbok, and other plant-eaters. You can explore them with no noise and crowds with fewer tourist visits.

Campsites

Camping in the forests is also a popular activity while on safaris in Serengeti. Your hotel should supply all camping gear, a chef, and armed security guards. It is more fun if you travel in groups, and you would have fun with your mates under the African sky. You will still encounter the beautiful sounds of birds, lions, and other animals.

Walking Safaris

Walking safaris are very popular in Tanzania. It depends upon the hotel you are staying at, but you can still take a walking safari. With these, you will learn about the local animals, plants, and other traditions that are pretty common in Serengeti. The arms guards are always with you during the walk to save you from any accident and give valuable information at every step.

Witnessing the heavy movements

Over 1.5 million zebra wildebeests migrate between Serengeti National Park and The Maasai Mara National Reserve every year. They face many carnivores’ hurdles during their movements, such as lions, tigers, and wild dogs. The biggest challenge is to cross the Mara River as they pass through Kenya. If they pass through the wrong spot of the river, there might be a chance of drowning or killing by crocodiles. It is famous because of the great fight between the wildebeest and predators, and it is recognized among visitors.

When to go Tanzania

The best time to travel to Serengeti is late January and February ends, and from June up to September for the wildebeest movements and a lovely safari. These are the most famous and commuter months, and the less crowded and reasonable period is November to May, also called the green season.

January-February

The winter is the best time to travel to Serengeti and the Ngorongoro conservation area. Numerous tourists arrive from the south side of the park, and this area is unvisited by tourists because of the absence of wildlife during the years. Short rains, which take place in November, call animals back to the grounds again. These immense grasslands are inserted with zebras, wildebeests, and other predators in the winter months.

June-September

These months are popular because of the great migrations of animals, as the plains are full of colorful flora. In the starting summer months, you will find the groups near the Grumeti River on the western side of the park and small rogue groups in the Lobo valley. Loving to watch grazers take dangerous river crocodiles makes a fantastic experience. Between Julys to September, the wildebeest and zebras mix with elephants and giraffes in Lobo and Bologonja national park in the north part.
